WALL-TO-WALL COMFORT
Hill Brothers Flooring and Supply is a carpet flooring retailer in Acworth, Georgia, that offers other flooring options too. Our installers are experienced pros who can handle any project, regardless of the size of the renovation. Wall-to-wall carpet has been a popular choice of flooring since the post-World War II era when new carpet fiber technologies produced more affordable products. Pre-war woven carpets were replaced by tufted nylon carpets. The former is produced on a loom while the latter is created by injecting fibers into a backing material with a machine.
Carpet fiber
Nylon is still the most popular carpet fiber. About 90% of the carpeting found in homes today is made of nylon. Polyester, polypropylene, acrylic, and wool are also used. It is best to compare the five fibers before making a final choice, and if you have any questions you can always give us a call.
- Nylon -resistant to stains, wear, abrasion, mold, mildew, and rot; holds color well; soft and durable with a life expectancy of 12 -15 years.
- Polyester -also known as olefin; commonly used in commercial applications since it wears well; almost as soft as nylon and highly resistant to stains.
- Polypropylene -non-allergenic and able to hold vibrant, fade-resistant colors; best for low-traffic areas; eco-friendly polyester/PET is made from recycled plastic bottles.
- Acrylic -sometimes called ‘synthetic wool’ because it has the feel and appearance of wool at a budget-friendly price; best for low traffic areas; resistant to fading, static electricity, staining, moisture, and mildew.
- Wool -natural and softest fiber; contains no chemicals and additives; best for low-traffic areas where high humidity and moisture are not a problem

Pile cuts
In addition to considering the fiber used to create a rug, you need to compare the pile cut. When fiber yarns are looped through a backing material, they can be left whole or cut at different angles and lengths. 'Carpet pile' refers to how the fiber loops are created. Berber, the most durable type of carpeting, is uncut. This is a great flooring choice for high-traffic areas because it is easy to clean and resistant to stains. Also, you won't see footprints and vacuum cleaner marks on it. Texture-cut and frieze-cut piles are also suitable for high-traffic areas while Saxony and plush cut piles are appropriate for low-traffic areas.
